An Arms Race Breeds Unstable Madrid Fans

Real Madrid’s new Galacticos era is worrying.  The last Galacticos era ended with a three year title drought between 2003 and 2006. It was during this period that I so keenly felt the discontent of Madrid fans. This was when Zhi Yuan famously declared he would kill me with a styrofoam cup much to the bemusement of my peers. It was harsh considering all I did was enquire disingenuously about the fortunes of his ailing team.

This time, a failure to live up to expectations and further Schadenfreude would most certainly reignite this fatwa. It would be fair to say that the reign of Florentino Perez is generally not a good omen for me. Even if Zhi Yuan failed, a miscarriage of Styrofoam cup murder would surely leave me stricken and unable to carry out further mocking.

That the workings of a football club in Madrid could pose a security threat to a teenager in a little island thousands of miles away is surely one of the drawbacks of satellite television.  That and Spanish Soap Opera.
